How can you tell if a saturn vue 2003 has a VTI transmission?

I was planning on buying a used SUV and heard the Vue had great reviews but not to buy the VTI transmission and the 4 speed auto was fine. How can you tell by looking at the shifter if it has VTI or just regular 4 speed transmission...and is this SUV a good buy at about 170000 km on it? Thanks for th help whoever does answer.
